Last summer, more than 250 registered voters signed petitions proposing that the Secretary of State update the procedures for registrars to maintain local voter rolls, which were last updated 3 decades ago. The current regulation is routinely ignored by the Bureau of Corporations, Elections and Commissions because of its de facto obsolescence.
After we submitted those petitions last August, the Secretary of State was required (under 5 M.R.S. Sec. 8055) to "initiate rulemaking proceedings and invite public comment" on our proposed rule within 60 days.
This hearing will be your opportunity to comment in person on our proposed changes.

Folks who can't attend can submit written comments by email to Melissa.Packard@Maine.gov, the Secretary of State's official contact person for this rule. The deadline for written comments is January 31, 2025.
